2009, A Slightly Softer City

A Slightly Softer City was conceived in the city of Kuopio, Finland for the ANTI Festival. ANTI, in Finnish, translates to “offering” or “gift”. For this project, clothing was crafted to zip on and off soft shapes for various sites around the city. The cushions were left in specific places around town, making a small, soft spot on otherwise hard surfaces. The shapes were picked up and dropped off using designed garments over several days during the festival.

Fabrication by Henna Jurrokola, Silvia Koskela and Maria Rasanen. Performed by Jaana Kari.
