Territorial Imaginations is a project, first run in AREA, that looks at the ability for certain groups to imagine and create individualized space. The drawings are of Dwight Correctional Center, a women’s maximum security facility in Illinois (women are the fastest growing segment of the prison population), and a Naperville common interest community (the fastest growing real estate trend in the U.S.). A prison, a gated community–both walled, often isolated and exclusive, generate imaginaries that have been fueling the development of both at unprecedented rates in America.
